CEO Smackdown, Blog-Style

Sun President Jonathan Schwartz has his own blog, and yesterday he posted an open letter to IBM CEO Sam Palimisano:

"[Sun customers] have now asked me to begin communicating with you in a more public and visible way - they'd like the choice to run IBM products on [the new Sun operating system] Solaris 10, and they're feeling that your withholding support is part of a vendor lock-in strategy. A strategy to trap them into IBM's proprietary Power5 platform only. [Emphasis his.]

Frankly, that behavior is reminiscent of an IBM history many CIO's would like to forget."

Bring it on, Jon.  This seems like a great use of the medium, a validation of the blogosphere, and a refreshingly candid voice from a corporate bigwig.  If Sun's President is putting his blog to good use, why isn't your organization's leadership doing the same?

Hat tip to Benjamin Pimentel for his article in today's S.F. Chronicle.
