Thanks, guys. I should have mentioned that the photo's from the National Portrait Gallery / Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC, which re-opened July 1st after a major renovation to the former Patent Office building that both institutions share. I was lucky enough to visit two weeks ago, and a highlight was the collection of folk art from the South, with an extensive look at the work of William Christenberry, where I found that sculpture and the Thornton Dial quote.
It's really an amazing place. We spent a good part of two days there, because there's just too much to absorb in a single day. Don't miss the Portico Cafe, which overlooks F Street from the second floor (in good weather.)
